Who we are
AppTraction is a product of Made by Windmill, LLC, 5900 Balcones Drive, Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731, United States. We’re responsible (the “controller”) for the personal data described here. For any privacy question, email hello@apptraction.dev.
Your App Store Connect key and data
Your App Store Connect private keys are stored in your Mac’s Keychain. They’re used only on your Mac to talk directly to Apple, and they’re never sent to us or anyone else.
The analytics AppTraction downloads from Apple, such as downloads, sales, proceeds, refunds, and subscriptions, are stored on your Mac along with your apps’ reviews, your events, AI chats, and reports, in ~/Library/Application Support/AppTraction.
AppTraction only changes anything in App Store Connect when you ask it to, such as when you apply a suggested fix to your App Store listing or reply to a review. Replies to reviews will be public once Apple approves them.
AI features
AppTraction doesn’t run its own AI service. Chat, AI reports, listing checks, and suggested review replies use a provider you set up yourself: Claude Code (Anthropic), Codex (OpenAI), or OpenRouter. Other AI providers may be added in the future. Requests go straight from your Mac to that provider, under your own account and their privacy terms. We never see them.
To answer your questions, the AI can read your app names, your daily metrics (including sales and proceeds) and their breakdowns, your timeline events, your App Store listing text, and your apps’ reviews and replies. It may also search the web.
When you ask for a suggested reply to a review, AppTraction will send your AI provider the review, anything you’ve typed as notes, your app’s description and latest release notes, and a few of your past replies.
Weekly, monthly, and annual AI reports are on by default and run automatically in the background, which means your data is sent to your AI provider even when you aren’t chatting. You can turn these off in Settings › Insights, under Automatic reports.
If you use an AI service that needs an API key, AppTraction will store the key in your Mac’s Keychain and send it only to that service.
AppTraction also includes a read-only server that lets other AI tools you use, like Claude Desktop, read your AppTraction data. It’s only used if you connect a tool to it yourself, and that data will then go to the tool’s AI provider.
Chat titles are created on your Mac using Apple’s on-device AI. Reviews and replies are translated on your Mac using Apple’s built-in translator, so they aren’t sent to your AI provider or to us.
Usage analytics
AppTraction collects anonymized usage analytics, such as which screens and features are used, plus basic details like your macOS version, app version, and Mac model. These never include your app names, App Store numbers, account details, or chat text, and they aren’t used to identify you.
Purchases
Orders are handled by our reseller, Paddle, which is the Merchant of Record. Paddle collects your payment details, email, and billing country to process the payment, add the right tax, and send your receipt. We never see your full card details. Paddle shares your name, email, country, and order details with us so we can give you access to what you bought, handle support and refunds, and keep financial records. Paddle’s own use of your data is covered by Paddle’s privacy notice.
To unlock AppTraction after you buy, the app will send our license server your license key and a random ID for this Mac. After that, it will check about once a day that the license is still active. Our server keeps your key, the random ID for each Mac, your plan, and Paddle’s ID for your purchase. It doesn’t store your name, email, or any device identifier. To stop repeated guessing, it briefly keeps a scrambled, one-way form of your IP address and deletes it within a day.
Your license is saved in your Mac’s Keychain and syncs to your other Macs through iCloud Keychain.
The start date of your free trial is saved in your Mac’s Keychain and syncs to your other Macs through iCloud Keychain. It isn’t sent to us.
Other connections
- Updates: AppTraction checks apptraction.dev for new versions. No system profile is sent.
- App Store info: app icons, ratings, and version history come from Apple’s public App Store data.
- Hosting: this website and our license and feedback services run on a cloud service, which may briefly log basic request details like IP addresses.
- Website analytics: this website uses Umami to count visits, which pages are viewed, and which sites sent visitors here, along with basic browser, device, and country details. It doesn’t use cookies or store your IP address.
Feedback and support
When you send feedback from AppTraction, it will go to our feedback service along with basic details about your setup: your app version, macOS version, Mac model, language and region, which AI provider you use, and how many accounts and apps you have (never their names). Your name and email are optional.
You can choose to attach a file and AppTraction’s log files, which help us find bugs. Logs may include your apps’ names and other public details, but never your App Store Connect keys or your sales and financial data.
We keep your feedback in our private issue tracker on GitHub, and any file you attach on our cloud service. To prevent spam, the feedback service keeps a scrambled, one-way version of your IP address, not the address itself.
Anything you send us, by feedback or email, is used only to help you and to improve AppTraction.
Why we use your data
- To provide what you bought, including activations, support, and refunds. This is needed for our contract with you.
- To keep financial and tax records, as the law requires.
- To improve AppTraction and prevent abuse, using usage analytics, feedback, and scrambled IP addresses. These are our legitimate interests, and we keep them to the minimum.
Who we share it with
Only with the services that help us run AppTraction: Paddle for orders, Cloudflare, which hosts our license server, our usage analytics provider, Umami for website analytics, and GitHub for feedback. We may also share data with our professional advisers, or with authorities when the law requires it. We don’t sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep license records for as long as the license can be used, and order records for as long as the law requires for tax and accounting. We keep feedback and usage analytics only as long as they’re useful for improving AppTraction. Data on your Mac stays until you delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, get a copy, limit or object to how we use it, and withdraw consent you’ve given. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. To use any of these rights, email us and we’ll respond within one month.
Security
We protect the little data we hold with access controls and encrypted connections, and we only keep what we need.
Cookies
This website doesn’t use cookies for tracking or ads. If you buy from this website, Paddle’s checkout may use cookies it needs to process your payment.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
